I have been in the fitness industry for more than a decade, this has given me the wonderful opportunity to get in touch with a lot of fitness experts, personal trainers and instructors in India and internationally. This experience leads me to ask a few fundamental questions:

97f24b83bb7042e138b7cc3247043a39 Why do we work out?

Almost everyone joins a fitness center with a goal in mind. Either it is losing weight, gaining muscles, defining the body or just to stay fit. No matter what the goal is you have to make sure you have the right guidance and information according to your needs and body.

How can you ensure, to get what is right for you?

This is a very important question to ask yourself. When you sign up at a center you pay a full service fee, the people who work at the center are there because of you. So ensure not to just enter a gym and use the treadmill or stepper because they look simple and easy to handle. Demand for a trainer who can give you support and teach you to use the right equipment for YOUR body.

How to structure your exercises?.

A training program has to be structured for your body, otherwise it is just a waste of effort. If you have a goal in mind, get all the help you need.  Ask the right questions and expect a great competent answer. Ask and demand constantly!

How to ensure if the trainer and expert on the gym floor is giving you the right guidance?

This is where the importance of asking questions come in. Ask him, what is his background? How he knows all of this? What kind of fitness education or certificates he did? How many fitness related workshops he is visiting on a yearly basis? What is he doing to keep himself up to date in the huge fitness market with all the new trends and techniques which are there? Does he work out? Does he look physical fit and healthy? (Fit does not mean just a six-pack). Finally ask the trainer to demonstrate all the movements and exercises and judge how they are delivering the information he is instructing you. If it looks GOOD in your eyes, this can help you get a sense of a good trainer.
Only you as a client can make a difference in the gyms today. If you don’t care who is supporting you on the gymfloor to hit your target and guide you in the right way, the Club Owners and Managers won’t see the need.

Fitness all over the world is becoming very serious and important, you should never find a trainer without a proper education; teaching and guiding others in gyms. It is mandatory that our personal trainers and instructors know their business. How else can we trust them with our bodies. Don’t struggle tomorrow because of the wrong guidance today.
